Product Description
In 1961, nearly 29 million Franklin silver half dollars were struck for circulation, yet only a measly three million were produced in proof finish. At the time of issue, proof specimens could only be found in the annual limited-mintage proof set. Over the decades, those wishing to obtain individual coins would ultimately break up an unknown number of complete proof sets.
As the first of its series and the final struck with 90% silver, the 1964 Kennedy half dollar is always in demand. In this coveted format just one proof was produced for every 100 circulation strikes. Today, an even smaller number of proofs are available individually as the U.S. Mint struck this desirable coin specifically for inclusion in the year's proof set.
