The 1972 proof set's 3.3 million mintage was lower than some later U.S. proof sets that today cost considerably more. It was one of the first San Francisco (S mintmark) proof sets, which are regarded as the finest in U.S. minting history. The set contains proofs of the cent, nickel, dime, quarter and half dollar and comes in official U.S. Mint packaging.
