This coin is the second release from the British Virgin Islands Ship Series by the Pobjoy Mint. This issue celebrates the famous Santa Maria, the largest of three ships under command of explorer, Christopher Columbus. Funded by Queen Isabella of Spain and accompanied by the Niña and Pinta, Columbus set sail in 1492 aboard the Santa Maria on the first of four expeditions to find a new trade route to the Indies. Reminiscent of treasure, this affordable golden-colored coin is comprised of virenium, a metal alloy created by Pobjoy. Just 1,950 of these nautical coins will be minted.
