This coin and stamp pairing represents the beginning and end of the Nazi regime. After the death of President Paul von Hindenburg in 1934, Germany fell under the control of Adolph Hitler. This silver five reichsmark was introduced in 1936 as a tongue-in cheek "tribute" to the late President — the man responsible for giving the title of Chancellor to Hitler — and was the first coin to display the Nazi's state insignia. After World War II ended, many of these 90% silver coins were destroyed as emblems of the Nazi regime. Released just days before Allied victory in 1945, the two Third Reich postage stamps were issued in commemoration of the 12th anniversary of the Nazi party's rise to power, but paradoxically became the very last symbol of a terrible era. Nicely detailed Fine to Very Fine reichsmark specimen.
