Product Description
With a hulking diameter of 29 millimeters — nearly the size of a modern half dollar — Draped Bust cents were issued during the primordial years of the Philadelphia Mint. Designed by Chief Engraver Robert Scot, the bust of Liberty was thought to have been based on a painting of American socialite, Anne Willing Bingham by the preeminent portrait artist of the day, Gilbert Stuart. Although more than 16 million Draped Bust cents were struck over a period of 12 years, much of the mintage was used heavily in commerce. More than two centuries later, these Good quality specimens still retain clear dates and major designs. Our choice of date.
