Product Description
The original 1917 Standing Liberty quarter provoked a famous controversy when released. The Society for the Suppression of Vice charged the coin with obscenity as Liberty has an exposed breast and thigh and demanded its recall. Meanwhile, the U.S. entered World War I and it was deemed appropriate that Liberty be covered up in medieval chain-mail! Every later 1917-1930 Covered Breast Type II issue carries the revised design. Well-traveled Good quality. Minted 1916-1930. Our choice of date.
