After the original eight-tailfeather eagle Morgan dollar type embarrassed the Mint Director, he ordered a new type with seven tailfeathers later in 1878. It became the standard for the series. Curiously, the young designer George T. Morgan had originally submitted a seven-tailfeather design after carefully studying the stuffed eagle at the Philadelphia Mint. But the Mint Director had suggested that he add another tailfeather to fill the design out! We offer the 1878 Philadelphia 7TF type in Brilliant Uncirculated quality.
