Product Description
1878-S Morgan Silver Dollar, These just shy of mint-state, first year AU specimens still exhibit the coining prowess of the San Francisco Mint. The first five dates of Morgans output by this branch mint are considered to be the finest struck of the entire 95-issue series. Of those 1878-1882 issues, this inaugural 1878-S Morgan is the scarcest overall.
1881-O Morgan Silver Dollar, Large quantities of New Orleans Morgans were released into local commerce and then mysteriously withdrawn and returned to the Mint in resealed bags. Numismatist Dean Tavenner refers to them as "...‘two-beer' dollars; i.e., coins which circulated long enough to buy two beers before returning to the vaults from circulation." Our AU 1881-O specimens are excellent examples of this.
