1879 Philadelphia Morgan Silver Dollar, Although Philadelphia's output of 14.8 million Morgans was the highest of 1879, many would later fall into the government's melting pot; today as little as 5% of its original production may remain in our nicely detailed Very Fine quality or higher grades. It costs no more than other issues of the era with several times as many surviving.
1883 Philadelphia Morgan Silver Dollar, Because nearly half of the Morgan series' entire mintage was lost in 20th century melts, original outputs for any given issue can be deceiving in relation to the actual number surviving. In 1883, the principal mint struck 12.3 million silver dollars, but more than 140 years later, just 10% of that output is estimated to remain in this Very Fine quality or higher grades.
