If you're ready to delve into the vast world of collectible Morgan dollar die varieties, this affordably-priced 1880 New Orleans Micro-O issue makes for a great jumping off point. When compared to other O-Mint Morgans, this micro type is noticeably smaller and it's been speculated that the mintmark punch was from a Seated Liberty quarter or half dollar of the time. The 1880-O's entire output was only 5,305,000 and it is not known how many carry the micro mintmark. Experts estimate that less than 2% of any 1880-Os are extant in mint-state grades; that low survival rate means that when Uncirculated specimens turn up in the marketplace, examples can command as much as five figures! Our Lilliputian-mintmarked specimens in lightly circulated Extra Fine quality are a real bargain by comparison!
