Product Description
Did you know that "Mercury" is actually a misnomer for the Winged Liberty Head dime? Beginning in 1916, this resplendent new design replaced the Barber dime that had been in circulation since 1892, and would continue through the war years until 1945.
This beautiful dime was designed by A.A. Weinman, creator of the beloved Walking Liberty half dollar. Its obverse depicts Liberty wearing a winged cap that was intended to represent freedom of thought. This portrayal of Liberty was often mistaken for the Roman god Mercury, thus earning the dime its moniker.
In splendid Brilliant Uncirculated quality, these 90% silver Mercury dimes we offer are still as gorgeous as the day they left the mint. Our choice of date.
