Wartime Change – Throughout WWII, America's metal supplies – including those intended for coinage – were diverted to the war effort. In 1944, Lincoln cents were struck using copper retrieved from casings of fired bullets and artillery shells. We've paired the shell-casing penny with a 90% silver Mercury dime that was in circulation during the war. Our choice of 1941-1945 dime based on availability.
