Product Description
Not only is this the lowest business strike mintage coin in the series, but it's also a "Bugs Bunny" variety — the best known of the Franklin errors.
The 1955 Franklin silver half dollar had the lowest-mintage of the short-lived Franklin series. Just 2,498,181 were struck at the Philadelphia Mint, the only facility to produce the coins that year, which was fewer than 3% of the number minted in the final year of the series.
Of those 1955 coins only a small number are of the "Bugs Bunny" variety created by a clashing of the obverse and reverse dies. The contact caused design details from the reverse engraving to be carried to the obverse design. What ensued is an impression on Franklin's lips resembling buck teeth.
