The Kennedy half dollar series is a favorite of collectors. And no series would be complete without this pair of desirable 1979-S proof subtypes. Trouble is, just 3,677,175 Kennedy halves were produced in all, but they were only issued by the U.S. Mint as components of the annual 1979 clad proof set. As the majority of those proof sets remain intact, it makes finding lone specimens a little tougher. What's more, toward the latter part of 1979 a slight modification was made to San Francisco's mintmark on the half dollar. This resulted in the more plentiful first Filled-S type, and much the much more scarce Clear-S type (experts estimate that less than 500,000 may be of this variety).
