Both of these 1991 sets feature mintages well below the average outputs for similar sets produced in the 1970s and 1980s. Now over three decades old, these historic sets will only continue to get harder and harder to find in the collecting marketplace. The 5-coin 1991 proof set's 2.6 million mintage was well below the outputs of 3 to 4 million common in the preceding decades. The production of 1,352,101 for the 1991 mint set was the second lowest to that date since 1968. Over the years many of these sets have been broken up by dealers for individual issues making published mintage numbers deceiving.
