1999 Proof Set: The hugely popular 50 State quarter series began in 1999. For the first time, a U.S. proof set contained nine coins: the typical cent through half dollar, plus all five of the first commemorative State quarters issued that year: Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia and Connecticut.

2000 Proof Set: This millennial 10-coin proof set is home to the first golden-colored Sacagawea dollar. Dated 2000, it includes the cent, nickel, dime and half dollar proofs as well as State quarters honoring Massachusetts, Maryland, South Carolina, New Hampshire and Virginia.

2005 Proof Set: The U.S. Mint issued special commemorative nickels in 2005 that featured one year only Bison and Ocean reverse designs to celebrate the bicentennial of the Louisiana Purchase/Lewis and Clark Expedition. These, along with the California, Minnesota, Oregon, Kansas and West Virginia State quarters and cent through dollar proofs brought the number of coins to 11.

2007 Proof Set: The introduction of the Presidential dollar series in 2007 would cause the annual proof set to balloon in size to 14 coins. These inaugural small dollars honored Washington, Adams, Jefferson and Madison. Rounding out the set were proof specimens of the cent through half dollar, Sacagawea dollar and Montana, Washington, Idaho, Wyoming and Utah State quarters.
