Issued in celebration of the 200th anniversary of the founding of the Library of Congress, this wonderful 90% silver dollar features the dome of the Library of Congress Jefferson Building. This esteemed government establishment is the oldest federal cultural institution in the United States. On the obverse engraving the torch of learning accompanies two books, one open and one closed. Only 53,264 Brilliant Uncirculated issues were minted. Almost four times as many proofs were produced making the BU a tougher find.
