This impressive silver issue is one of the two silver dollars minted that year to celebrates the 300th birthday of Benjamin Franklin. The obverse on this coin honoring his scientific talents shows the beloved inventor executing his famous kite experiment. His role as a patriot and a statesman is honored on the reverse with an engraving of his Join or Die political cartoon, which was published in the Pennsylvania Gazette. Just 58,000 were produced in Brilliant Uncirculated quality, far fewer than the proof issues released.
