The fifth and final 2022 release of the American Women Quarters series honors Anna May Wong, the first Chinese American film star in Hollywood. Born in Los Angeles in 1905, Wong was cast in her first role as an extra in 1919. Her first leading role in The Toll of the Sea came just a few years later in 1922. Wong's career spanned motion pictures, television, and theater, including silent films and one of the first movies made in Technicolor. The international film star, fashion icon and television trailblazer was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame one year before she died in 1961. Her role as a champion for greater representation of Asian Americans in film is still relevant today. The coin's obverse features an updated bust of George Washington. Philadelphia and Denver pair in Brilliant Uncirculated quality.
