The second American Innovation dollar of 2023 depicts a Higgins Boat as it would have been deployed during World War II with its innovative landing ramp open against a beach. In the late 1930s, the U.S. military began developing small boats that could carry troops from ships to open beaches. Andrew Jackson Higgins of New Orleans, who had been manufacturing shallow-water work boats to support oil and gas exploration in the Louisiana bayous, adapted his Eureka Boat to meet the military's specifications for a landing craft. Inscriptions are "UNITED STATES of AMERICA," "THE HIGGINS BOAT," and "LOUISIANA." The common obverse features the Statue of Liberty and a privy mark of a stylized gear. Edge incused date and mintmark. Philadelphia and Denver pair in Brilliant Uncirculated quality.
