The second Alabama issue recognizes the invention of the Saturn V rocket. The Saturn V rocket was developed to support the Apollo space program for human exploration to the Moon. NASA launched 13 Saturn V rockets between 1967 and 1973.
The third dollar honors Dr. Bernard Lown and his invention of the lifesaving direct current defibrillator.
The final dollar honors agricultural scientist, George Washington Carver whose research and outreach not only improved the lives of individual American farmers but changed the agricultural landscape forever.
