This ancient bronze coin is the centerpiece of the parable of the Widow's Mite told in the gospels of Mark and Luke. As Jesus witnessed rich and poor contributing to religious coffers, he noted the paradox in the value of a widow's lowly bronze mite. Christ said, "This poor widow put more into the treasury than all the others... all she had to live on." Minted between 103-76 BCE during the reign of King Alexander Jannaeus, these star and anchor bronze mites would have circulated in Jesus' lifetime. The crude method of manufacture means no two specimens will be alike. Approximately 5mm-8mm or larger. Housed in a clear presentation case.
