Trade Takes to the Sky – In 1948, the Atlas Supply Company turned a retired WWII DC-4 into a "flying showroom," circling the globe on a 100-day, 44,500-mile journey to promote American trade. On board were special U.S. airletter sheets and each would receive a postmark from all 29 world cities visited on the tour. Upon the plane's return, these globetrotting aerograms were gifted to supporters of the Damon Runyon Cancer Fund, led by famed broadcaster Walter Winchell.
