The American Numismatic Association's 96th annual National Coin Week is just around the corner. During the Week of April 21st - 27th 2019, the ANA is celebrating numismatics in discoveries and innovations. Their theme, "Discover the Past, Envision the Future" spotlights the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing. Part of the ANA's festivities will include trivia events and a chance to design a coin that will be released in the year 2069.

Speaking of discovery, when's the last time you found a Mercury dime in your change — or even a wheat penny? Also coinciding with National Coin Week is the Great American Coin Hunt. In the hopes of inspiring future coin buffs during the week-long numismatic celebration, independent dealers will be voluntarily releasing thousands of vintage coins and older paper money back into circulation across the U.S. To see if coins have been released in your area, check out the map here. Who doesn't love a treasure hunt? 

Don't just look for the classics — check your quarters, too! The U.S. Mint is also adding to the Great American Coin Hunt during its 227th birthday month. Earlier in April, the Mint released a limited supply of American the Beautiful quarters mint-marked with West Point's "W" to various banks and financial institutions — which is kind of a big deal, as no W-mint coins have ever been released for circulation. (West Point has released coins for circulation, but sans mint-mark, making them indistinguishable from Philadelphia.)

ICC is also participating in the Great American Coin Hunt, but we need your help! Randomly selected orders will receive a free vintage coin and we ask our customers to spend it locally to add the the variety of coins found in pocket change. Who knows, maybe your contribution will inspire a future collector!
