Featuring Tsar Boris III of Bulgaria, these 50% silver 100 leva coins were issued in 1930, as Hitler and the Nazi party began rising to power. In the midst of WWII, Boris III aligned his country with the Axis powers to reclaim territories that had been lost during the first world war. The alliance soured when in 1943, the Tsar refused Hitler's orders to deport the remaining Jewish population of Bulgaria. Boris III met with the Führer shortly after his dissent and died two weeks later – giving rise to the speculation that he may have been poisoned. Very Fine quality.
