Product Description
This French coin was among the many foreign issues that circulated freely throughout American commerce during the first half of the 19th century. Struck from .900 fine silver, it depicts the last King of France, Louis Philippe I, whose brief reign began in 1830. Philippe's initial popularity earned him the moniker of the Citizen King, but as economic conditions deteriorated across France, he quickly fell out of favor as he was seen to further the interests of the rich. He abdicated the throne in 1848 and fled to England. Fine to Very Fine quality. Our choice of date based on availability.
