This 1972 proof set is a perfect example of afforability. It's 3.3 million mintage was lower than some later U.S. proof sets that today cost considerably more. It was one of the first San Francisco (S mintmark) proof sets, which are regarded as the finest in U.S. minting history. Interestingly this clad set contains just five coins: cent, nickel, dime, quarter and half dollar; although the Ike dollar series had debuted one year earlier. Dazzling specimens remain in official U.S. Mint packaging.
