175 Years Spent Under the Sea – In January, 1809 the Admiral Gardner was bound for the East Indies on what would be her final voyage. The cargo ship sailed in perilous weather from London laden with 46 tons of copper cash coins, but was lost in a howling gale. Her wreckage was discovered in 1984 and divers retrieved much of her cargo, including a sealed barrel that contained thousands of cash coins! That barrel preserved these very specimens struck in 1808 for the East India Company. The obverse of these "10 cash" coins bear the royal insignia of the EIC with exotic Mughal script on the reverse. Shipwreck certified by NGC.
