Product Description
1959 Proof Set. Far fewer U.S. proof sets were issued in the 1950s than in succeeding decades. In fact, the 1959 proof set with a production of 1.1 million, had the lowest mintage of the past 50 years. Later mintages soared to as high as 4 million. Many sets were broken up to obtain individual Franklin silver half dollar proofs, which were minted only as part of complete proof sets, resulting in even fewer intact sets being available today.
1961 Proof Set. Now well over 50 years old, it's the least costly U.S. proof set of its vintage. This was one of the last regular U.S. proof sets to include three 90% silver denominations (the dime, quarter and half dollar) in addition to the cent and nickel. Many of the sets were later broken up to obtain coveted individual Franklin silver half dollar proofs, which were issued only in these sets. Sealed U.S. Mint cellophane packaging protected the beauty of these finest-quality proofs.
