This clad half dollar was struck in 1991 by the Denver Mint in commemoration of Mount Rushmore's 50th anniversary. Proceeds from the sale of this coin helped finance a portion of the monument's $40 million restoration work. Known as the Shrine of Democracy, Mount Rushmore is one of America's most popular tourist attractions and welcomes almost two million visitors a year.
The impressive engraving shows glorious sun rays behind a close up view of the massive mountain sculpture of presidents Washington, Jefferson, Teddy Roosevelt and Lincoln. The monument's golden anniversary is noted on the reverse along with an image of an American Bison. Copper-nickel. Brilliant Uncirculated quality.
