It was minted in celebration of the XV FIFA World Cup Soccer Tournament which was held for the first time in the United States in 1994. Played over four weeks in nine different cities, the event was a surprising success and broke previous attendance records. Fewer than one third as many BU coins were minted in comparison with proof issues. Copper-nickel.
