Product Description
Issued as part of the commemorative coin series celebrating the 1996 Summer Olympics held in Atlanta, this Brilliant Uncirculated silver dollar honors the Paralympic Games. In terms of its mintage, this coin would take the gold medal for the fewest struck for the collective XXVI Olympiad event — only 14,497 BU specimens were produced. By comparison, more than five times as many proof versions were issued. The silver dollar depicts a track and field paralympic athlete in a wheelchair. Above his outstretched arms is the event's motto, TRIUMPH OF THE HUMAN SPIRIT. The word "spirit" also appears in Braille.
Please note that our modern commemoratives are not always available in the original mint packaging.
