Product Description
This was the first silver dollar proof issued to the general public by the U.S. Mint (the few made earlier are rare and extremely costly). It revived the traditional-size silver dollar which had been suspended after the final 1935 Peace silver dollar. Shown is President Eisenhower, who had died in 1969. On the reverse the American Eagle lands on the Moon - a tribute to the space program inaugurated during Ike's administration. Finest-quality proof minting with deep-struck engravings and mirror surfaces.
