This historic Indian Head bronze cent replaced the copper-nickel type at the height of the Civil War, when nickel was needed for armaments. Its 95% copper content remained the standard for U.S. cents until 1982. Our Good quality retains basic designs and clear dates and inscriptions. These coins passed through many hands during the Civil War and Wild West eras.
