These 40% silver Kennedy half dollars were struck by the San Francisco Mint exclusively for three-coin 1976 silver proof sets released in honor of America's Bicentennial. Just under four million of those proof sets were issued by the Mint. In celebration of America's 200th birthday, the Kennedy half dollar featured a unique reverse design of Independence Hall and dual 1776-1976 date. Throughout the years, a portion of those sets were broken up to obtain individual coins.
