Product Description
The greatest scarcities in the Morgan silver dollar series occur in the Rare Decade of the 1890s. After the Sherman Silver Purchase Act was repealed in 1893, Morgan dollar mintages temporarily plummeted. By 1896, mintages were again on the rise, but still relatively limited compared to earlier peak outputs. The 1896 no-mintmark Philadelphia Mint issue (mintage 9.9 million) is the only 1896 Morgan reasonably affordable in mint-state quality. A lot fewer survive in the nicely preserved Very Fine quality we offer than some 1880s Morgans that sell for as much or more.
