Product Description
Long before it was a nation of states, America was a nation of tribes. In recognition of the important contributions made by Indian tribes and individual Native Americans, the U.S. Mint has offered the Native American One Dollar Coin series since 2000. While early issues of this coin were struck for circulation, these small dollars have only been produced for collectors in limited numbers since 2002. Beginning in 2009, the reverse of the Sacagawea dollar has featured special one-year-only designs to honor the contributions of Native Americans to the development and history of the United States. The new 2018 reverse honors prolific athlete Jim Thorpe, the first Native American Olympic gold medalist.
