Only the Philadelphia and San Francisco mints struck Peace silver dollars in 1924. The 1924-S mintage of 1.7 million was only 15% of the year's Philadelphia output. And a far smaller proportion of the S-mintmark issue has survived. AU coins possess original luster, but merely a trace of wear at highest points. Sometimes the price gap between AU and BU is as slight as the quality difference, but for this issue it's substantial  BU retails for almost $600!
