In 1928, the quota Congress had set for Peace dollars was reached and minting abruptly stopped. Just 1.6 million issues emerged from the San Francisco Mint that year. Together with the Philadelphia mintage, it was the smallest production for any year in the series when two or more mints issued Peace dollars.
