Introduced in the year 2000, the compact Sacagawea dollar hoped to revive the $1 coin in commerce. But it did not catch on with the public and production numbers quickly plummeted. This 2006-D Denver issue had a mintage of less than 1% of the first Denver mintage in 2000. Now Sacagawea dollars are only minted in limited numbers for collectors.
