When first issued, the 1979-S SBA's original die created a mintmark that appeared to be filled in. Later in the year, the filled S was revised and re-cut to clarify the mintmark, which produced a second variety for the date. These Type I proofs were not issued separately, but only as part of the year's five-coin proof set, making them tougher to find individually.
