Indian Head pennies are among the most popular and widely collected of all U.S. coins. Designed by James B. Longacre, the famous obverse was intended as a "quintessentially American" personification of Lady Liberty. Common folklore would have it that the rendering of Liberty was based off of Longacre's eldest daughter, Sarah. The Union Shield reverse was introduced in 1860, on the eve of the Civil War. Sharply detailed Extra Fine quality. Our choice of date.
