The short supply of five and ten cent pieces in the Old West during the 1870s gave birth to another oddity of U.S. coinage: the here-and-gone 1875-1878 Seated Liberty silver twenty cent coin. While the denomination made logical sense, its nearness in both size and appearance to the circulating quarter led to its swift demise – business strikes were produced in 1875 and 1876, followed by two years of proof-only issues. We offer the 1875-S specimen in nicely detailed Very Fine condition.
