Product Description
1883 No Cent Liberty Head Nickel G – In 1883, the new Liberty head nickel featured only a large "V" for the 5 cent denomination. Since they closely matched the size and design of a $5 gold piece swindlers gold-plated some and passed them off as those much higher value coins. The denomination of "Cent" was added later that year and used for the remainder of the series. The Good quality issue offered here is the original "No Cents" type.
1883 With Cent Liberty Head Nickel G – After problems with the original "No Cent" V nickel a second type was output later in 1883. The word CENTS was added to the reverse engraving to keep racketeers from gold-plating them and passing them off as $5 gold pieces. These Type II Good quality specimens were from the first year of the series.
