Just days after unveiling the new 1909 Lincoln cent, the Mint Director halted the busy coin presses. Complaints had begun to pour in regarding the much too prominent initials of the designer, Victor D. Brenner on the coin's reverse. A second type was quickly minted without the controversial letters. More than 11 decades later, the original Philadelphia 1909 VDB type remains a collector favorite. Very Fine to About Uncirculated quality.
