This silver half dollar marks the 300th anniversary of French Huguenots settling New Netherland (now New York) in 1624. The 90% silver piece celebrates their fight for civil and religious liberty. The engraving, designed by George T. Morgan of Morgan dollar fame, features portraits of Admiral Gaspard de Coligny and William the Silent on the obverse, and the ship Nieuw Nederlandt on the reverse. This issue was the only comemmorative struck in 1924; a total of 142,080 coins were distributed, but today far fewer remain in collectible condition. We've sourced gorgeous AU specimens.
