Product Description
A star is born — or rather, a star note is born when the US. Bureau of Engraving and Printing deems a note imperfect when it is inspected before being released into circulation. The defective note is removed and replaced with a star note, which has an asterisk that appears either before of after the serial number on the bill.
Along with the star, these 1957 $1 silver certificates feature a distinctive blue seal and could be redeemed for their face value of silver dollar coins upon demand. Not only was 1957 the final year that $1 silver certificates were issued, but it was also the first time that the motto, IN GOD WE TRUST appeared on paper money in the United States.
