A star is born — or rather, a star note is born when the US. Bureau of Engraving and Printing deems a note imperfect when it is inspected before being released into circulation. The defective note is removed and replaced with a star note, which has an asterisk that appears either before of after the serial number on the bill.
Along with the star, these 1957 $1 silver certificates feature a distinctive blue seal and could be redeemed for their face value of silver dollar coins upon demand. Not only was 1957 the final year that $1 silver certificates were issued, but it was also the first time that the motto, IN GOD WE TRUST appeared on paper money in the United States. Very Good to Very Fine quality.
