Product Description
1958 PROOF SET – In 1958 the U.S. Mint produced just 875,652 proof sets. Annual mintages increased and did not fall below that until 2012 – 54 years later! As the year's Franklin half dollar proof could only be found in this five-coin set, intact issues have been split up for individual specimens.
1964 PROOF SET – The five-coin 1964 proof set is notable for three reasons: it contained the first (and only 90% silver) Kennedy half dollar; it was the final proof set produced by the Philadelphia Mint; and it was the last of its kind to contain 90% silver specimens of the dime, quarter and half dollar.
Over the years many of these sets have been broken up to obtain individual coin issues for complete series sets. That means even fewer intact sets remain today than official mintage numbers indicate.
Included in each of these early sets are finest-quality proofs of the cent, nickel, silver dime, silver quarter and silver half dollar. Packaging for early proof sets may vary. Original U.S. Mint packaging is not always available or desirable.
