When first issued, the 1979-S Susan B. Anthony dollar and Kennedy half dollar had original dies with a mintmark that appeared to be filled in. Later in the year, the filled S was revised on both coins and re-cut to clarify the mintmark. That produced a second Type II variety for both coins for the date. These Type I proofs were not issued separately, but only as part of the year's five-coin proof set, making them tougher to find individually.
