The new Michigan Innovation dollar pays tribute to the auto assembly line. In 1913, Henry Ford revolutionized the fledgling American auto industry by building the first moving assembly line at his Highland Park plant in Michigan. Ford was able to efficiently mass-produce the Model T, lowering production costs and passing the savings to consumers. By 1925, a brand new Tin Lizzie could be purchased for just $260; at 68% less than its original 1908 price tag, middle-class Americans could afford to own an automobile.
